Our History
Wellie Yaple Sr. entered the vacuum sales and servicing industry in the late 1950s when he began working for the Hoover Company. He built his experience, fine-tuned his skills, and once he had mastered the vacuum trade, opened the doors to what would become the family’s legacy.

In 1960, with the help of his wife Ida Yaple, he went into business for himself and opened up shop at 2311 French Street in Erie, PA. After the birth of Doug Yaple’s second son, in hopes of eventually passing the business down to a 3rd generation, Doug consulted with his father on getting into the family business. Using the knowledge he gained from his father mentoring him, in 1989, Doug (2nd generation) made the decision to follow in his father’s footsteps and opened an east side location of the family’s business at 835 East Avenue. In 2002 he relocated to 3341 Buffalo Road, and then to allow for a more central location, he relocated to 1815 East 38th Street in 2013.
Most recently, for the convenience of his customers on the West side of Erie, Doug expanded and opened a second location. This store, located at 2301 West 12th Street in the Schaal Plaza, is managed by, you guessed it, a 3rd generation, his son Kyle Yaple.
Doug Yaple's has had great success over the years. While the store’s physical location may have changed a few times, the one thing that hasn’t faltered from one generation to the next is the knowledgeable, personalized, professional and friendly encounter we guarantee you will always receive from this local, family-owned business with over 150+ total years of combined experience.
